Vita

Charlie Casanova is a multidisciplinary artist and actress. Her work spans drawing (including commissions for Die Zeit), music (live piano and composition for theatre productions), oil painting (such as scenic designs for Carmen at the Hamburg State Opera), and experimental film (notably microfilm series on Instagram). She gained recognition for her live illustrations during theatre performances, initially at the Berliner Ensemble. Her acting debut took place at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg. Since 2024, she has been a member of the SWR Talent Network.

Residency

As part of the residency, I aim to expand and further develop a personal theatrical-filmic language. The foundation for this process lies in various styles and techniques acquired to date, which will serve as the basis for exploring independent, multidisciplinary forms of expression. Central focuses are the use of illustration and painting (for sets), acting and dramaturgy, experimental film and editing, as well as (live) music and composition. My goal is to develop non-linear, Dada-inspired modes of storytelling and to approach the creation of a personal directorial language in a practical manner. Overcoming limitations and fears serves as a guiding theme throughout this exploration.
