Future Traditions and Art in-Between: concert evening of compositions by Olga Neuwirth and Du Yun

Concert and conversation in the series Memory of Hearing
Saturday, 28 May 2022, Hanseatenweg

Continuing the series Memory of Hearing, the composers Du Yun and Olga Neuwirth will perform selected works under the title “Future Traditions and Art in-Between”. In the concert on 28 May 2022, musicians of Ensemble Mosaik will perform two works by each of the artists. Video artist Lillevan will mix live images to Neuwirth's compositions, while Du Yun will appear as a solo performer in A Cockroach's Tarantella. The concert evening will be supplemented by a conversation between the two composers in English.

The meeting of the Chinese-American composer Du Yun and the Austrian composer and Akademie member Olga Neuwirth brings together two of contemporary music's foremost female artists. Pulitzer Prize winner Du Yun is currently Deutsche Bank Fellow in Composition at the American Academy, and Olga Neuwirth was awarded the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize 2022 in March. Both negotiate gender roles, traditions and crossovers between the arts in works often featuring narrative and media elements.

The series Memory of Hearing of the Music Section of the Akademie der Künste brings together in each case an Akademie member and an international guest; the theme of the musical and verbal encounter is the link between cultural memory and hearing. The most recent concert evening of the series was presented by Liza Lim and Isabel Mundry in April.
