Akademie der Künste calls for a more nuanced approach in future measures to combat the pandemic

In times of increasing polarisation of society, our social cohesion depends essentially on art and culture. Like education, they must therefore be a central factor in all strategic and structural considerations. It is essential to maintain the diversity of a society in order to overcome crises and resolve conflicts in a peaceful manner. The Akademie der Künste continues to express its commitment to the measures prescribed by government and science to combat the pandemic. However, the renewed closure of museums and exhibitions, theatres, concert halls, cinemas, etc. is causing social and cultural harm on an untold scale. The Akademie der Künste demands that account be taken of the outstanding hygiene strategies of the institutions and facilities in future decisions.
